Enhanced Recovery Canadaâ„¢ releases updated resources for healthcare providers and patients on colorectal surgery

Enhanced Recovery Canadaâ„¢ (ERC), with support from ÈÕ±¾ÎÞÂë, released its updated clinical pathway and patient resources for colorectal surgeries today. The resources include strategies and guidance to improve patient experience and reduce length of stay, complication rates and hospital readmissions.

The Clinical Pathway for Colorectal Surgery provides guidance to healthcare providers across the continuum of surgical care on all stages of the patient’s journey, from pre-admission to post discharge to help reduce complications, support shorter hospital stays and safer transitions after colorectal surgery.

The ERC colorectal clinical pathway is based on Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) surgical best practices that put the quadruple aim within reach – improving patient outcomes and patient experience, supporting the clinician experience, and lowering costs.

ERC’s updated clinical pathway is complemented by resources for patients undergoing colorectal surgery, which aim to improve the patient and caregiver experience and recovery process.

Clinical pathways and patient resources have been produced for other common procedures, including cesarian section, gynaecologic, and orthopaedic hip and knee replacement surgeries. Learn more about these and the work of ERC.

ERC's resources are updated every three years to ensure alignment with current clinical best practices.
